Brain of Britain - Round 1 - Match 9

Brain of Britain - Round 1 - Match 9

The first round of Brain of Britain 2011/2012 entered it's ninth match and with another place in the ever competitive looking Semi Finals everything was to play for. It remained so throughout the second round and this was shaping up to be a great contest, although the questions did seem a tad easier than in previous weeks, told by the fact I was getting much more than usual!

Contenders -

Geoffrey Birmingham
Beverley Davies
Peter King
Richard Peterson

The first round saw everybody score which is always good to hear. An Adrian Mole question seemed to stump nearly all, for some reason I find that hard to remember too! It ended the first round and Peter King had taken a small lead which he managed to hold onto throughout but the longer the contest went on the closer it became with some great answering along the way and some good scoring.

Peter got the music question in the next round, a quite tough one to boot, leaving it very close by the time the beat the brain's feature marked the half way point. The calm before the storm I imagined as at this stage anyone could steal the win. The Brains dispatched of the questions and time to resume.

Geoffrey Birmingham started off needing points and managed to bag a few moving onto 8 points. Peter King was in the lead though but with Peterson just behind on 9 this was going to be tense. The next music question was much easier. Indeed Richard Peterson had a fantastic few rounds taking a lead and pushing King into second place, again evidence that one good run on Brain of Britain can be the make or break feature.

Into the last round and Geoffrey Birmingham failed is his question pushing him out of contention, Beverley Davies had been quiet for a long time and could not get her question either. Peter King needed 5 in a row in tie and hope Peterson fell down but this was not to be. As Richard Peterson was asked the last set he was fully aware he was the winner and semi final place is his! A solid win and another contender emerges for the crown this year.

Final Standings -

Richard Peterson - 19
Peter King - 11
Geoffrey Birmingham - 10
Beverley Davies - 5
